Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple measure that uses height and weight to estimate whether a person falls within a healthy weight range. It is a widely used screening tool, though it does not account for muscle mass or body composition.
How to use this calculator
- Enter your weight in kilograms.
- Enter your height in centimeters.
- Review your BMI value and the corresponding category.
Formula
BMI is calculated as weight (kg) divided by height (m) squared: BMI = weight ÷ (height/100)². Standard adult categories are Underweight (below 18.5), Normal (18.5–24.9), Overweight (25–29.9), and Obese (30 and above).
Example
A person who weighs 70 kg and is 175 cm tall has a BMI of about 22.9, which falls in the Normal category.
